City counsel was busy last night releasing records! First there was the financial report for the ballpark and now they have released documents that the El Paso Times had requested concerning efforts this year to replace the city’s financial adviser. According to the times, the documents contain emails about the bidding process and the timeline around the proposed replacement of First Southwest. On October 1st of this year, the bidding process was abandoned because “Gonzalez and Sutter said they did so after discovering that complaints about First Southwest were unfounded. None of the hundreds of pages of emails provided so far to the Times show any city official expressing dissatisfaction with First Southwest before or during the bid process.” (read the El Paso Times story here. or the KVIA story here).
So the saga continues. It will be interesting to see what the report requested by the Mayor contains. Given the recent push by the City Counsel for transparency, we are cautiously optimistic that it will be released to the tax payers so that we may judge for ourselves.
